At the end of last month Mimecast released their latest revision of their Unified Email Management service 2009.7 and I have to say it is so far their biggest release yet!
Previously when I logged onto Mimecast (before this major update) I would read the release notes of the new releases and see what had changed… usually some functionality in the back end of the system, however this release (from a customer facing perspective) I would say is their largest release yet! lots of great changes to their service. The biggest for me (so far) being Exchange Folders.
One of the original reasons we switched to Mimecast was the due to the outlook integration. Although we have not rolled this out fully yet to all our staff, it has proved to be a great add-on to outlook and users who need to search deleted emails.
Now, the Outlook plugin (Mimecast Services for Outlook (MSO)) replicates your Exchange Folders. And probably does a lot of other fancy stuff too, although I have not yet had chance to look at it, but it looks like it offers message stubbing or just attachment stubbing. I hope to play with (I mean look at) this in the coming weeks.
Mimecast, from a customers perspective are a company that focus on giving their existing customers the latest and greatest not just their new customers. and they are very customer driven, unlike other companies, who, once they have your money, tend to be really poor at customer service, mentioning no names….
I have said it time and time again, Mimecast is a service that I really cannot fault in any way, ok we had a small issue with incoming emails some weeks ago, I think that messages were delayed for about 1 – 2 hrs, but it is not written in stone that email is delivered instantaneously we just take it for granted that it will be there in seconds.
One thing I have not tried yet with the Exchange Folders is using my laptop offline. It worked great just with the inbox, but, how well will it work wit hthe folders? will it let me use the older in my mailbox when working offline (not connected to the exchange server, just having an internet connection).
Looking forward to the new portal coming in the next month or so :)
